I remember Andy telling me at the beginning on 2013 that it was going to be my year. He was right, in more ways than one.
I was struggling with my job and having a difficult time passing my interpreting test. It wasn’t but a few weeks into the new year when I found out I failed my test for the second time. At that time I didn’t realize it was a blessing in disguise. During that time I was helping my cousin with his goal of losing weight by sending him weekly workouts.
It was then I realized I had found a new passion. Hearing how a workout left him sore but encouraged him to keep working hard made me happy. It was then I decided I needed to look into the personal training field.
After months of studying I passed my certification and became an ACE certified personal trainer.
During that time I also landed my dream interpreting job. While I do miss the school hours I used to have I couldn’t be happier with my new job. I’ve had the chance to interpret some pretty neat jobs and I love my coworkers.
I started 2013 out with a new 5k PR which started a trend for the year. Just about a month later I achieved a new 10k PR. I was training for the Flying Pig and ran a half as part of training and surprised myself with a new PR of 1:40.
The Pig didn’t go as planned but I learned a lot during that race. I am stronger and way more determined than I thought. That race lead me to signing up for a fall marathon.
Training in the summer was no easy task. Training alone made me appreciate my running group more. I’m still so proud of my training.
My greatest running achievement hands down this year was finishing the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon at 3:54. I’ve been chasing that sub 4 for 2 years and it felt great to get it!
Also, I set a goal of running 1,000 miles. I hit my goal a few weeks ago. Just to show how far I’ve come I ran 250 miles in 2011, 750 in 2012, and 1k in 2013.
There were so many other things to love about this year- our California vacation, trips to the lake, the Kenny Chesney concert, friends having babies, celebrating at weddings, and just enjoying the life I’ve been blessed with. I don’t think Andy realized what he meant when he predicted this year. It was a year to remember. I can only hope 2014 follows suit!
What was your favorite memory of 2013? What are you looking forward to working in 2014?
