Then & Now

Three years ago, my journey of running began.A lot has changed from then until now. I will never forget that first run in 2010 when I went out just to see how far I could go without stopping. I am glad I made the decision to run. I haven’t looked back since!

Then, I didn’t have a plan. I ran when I felt up for it.

Now, I follow a plan and stick to it!

*

Then, I had no clue about proper shoes. I didn’t know you should keep track of how many miles a pair had on them.

Now, I understand the importance of going to a running store to get properly fitted. I log my miles on Daily Mile and Runkeeper, and always note when I change shoes.

*

Then, I didn’t have a Garmin, never worried about pace, and never set any goal times.

Now, I’m a Garmin addict, pay attention to my pace, and set goals for myself.

Then, I would hang up my running shoes up at the first sign of winter.

Now, I don’t mind winter running and actually prefer it over the heat{once I’m out the door}.

Then, I couldn’t run without having music.

Now, I actually enjoy listening to the world around me.

*

Then, I trained for my 5k, 10k, and first half solo.

Now, I train with a group and love it. I made friendships that I wouldn’t of had if I wasn’t into running.

Then, I always said I’d never run a marathon, that was just crazy.

Now, I am training for my second marathon and even thinking of running a third!

*

Then, I fell in love with running and what it did for my soul.

Now, I still love running and what it still does for my soul.

What would your then & now look like?

Anyone racing this weekend? I have a half marathon on Sunday that I can’t wait to run!

Happy Friday!

My running adventure is still very new since I’ve only been running for about 15 months, but all of your Then/Now’s already apply to me as well :) I had no clue what it really took to run efficiently and properly and feel so much wiser in just the short amount of time! I haven’t done a marathon yet, but I’m signed up for MCM in October as my first! :)

This is a great post! Your then and now is similar to mine, but I have to say that your pace on that first run was killer! I think I was probably around 11 minute miles or possibly slower when I first started my couch to 5k. And I definitely prefer running in the cool.

This is just the positive message I needed today! I love your then and now… and you forgot to mention that NOW you inspire people through your passion of running!!! You go! Good luck on your 1/2 :)

You’re so inspirational. I’ve been thinking if writing a post on why I decided to start running, I think I might add a “then and now” to it.
I’m doing the Shamrock’n 1/2 this Sunday in Sacramento :)

I’m so glad you love running!! I wish I did…but I like doing other stuff for exercise, and absolutely agree…the right shoes make all the difference!

Aww! Happy runniversary! You are an amazing runner (and person)! Our stories are similar, but I was a weirdo who “gave up” running in college.

Keep up the good work Allie!

    xoxo,
    Ashley

Love this. Then I would have never thought I would have been depressed by not being able to run…and certainly would have never thought I’d ever have to give up a race because of an injury. It’s amazing how running changes you. I’ll definitely be going to a running store to make sure my shoes aren’t the problem. And I would have never thought I would be able to run with a partner and TALK through an 8+ mile run!
