Weekly Workout: Marathon Training Week 1

thisweek

This week was the start of marathon training, sort of. Our first group run wasn’t until Saturday. This week I will begin running 3 days a week again.

My week started off running in the Commitment Day race. You can read about my race recap here. I still am glowing from my new PR. It was a great kick off to the year!

I tried a few new workouts out this week. On Wednesday I went to Cardi-Yoga. I really like the flow of this class. The first half we did a mix of weights and running. It was a really heavy leg day. The second half of class was yoga. It was nice to stretch out. That is one thing I am terrible about doing on my own! I was sore through Friday from this workout! This class is only offered at 9 am so I won’t get to go back until spring break.

Thursday I had an indoor soccer game. I wish I could track how much I run, I know I do a good amount of sprints. My team is terrible, but everyone has a good time. I play pretty aggressively, which I’ll need to turn down a notch. I have to stay healthy for training!

Like I mentioned before, Saturday was the first official run of the 2013 Pig training season. It was so nice to see people from last year and catch up. I’m in such a different place than last year. The training this month doesn’t look as scary as it did last year. I believe our longest run this month is 9 miles.

Saturday splits:

I’m not sure what happened at mile 2 but we picked the pace up.

Today I went to support my cousin, Stacey, at her new Zumba class. She held an open house (at the dance studio that started it all for me-brought back so many memories!) event this weekend. The class was only $5 so I thought I’d give it a shot. I had a great time! There was one dance that had a good amount of jump squats. I know I’ll be feeling that tomorrow! Stacey is the perfect instructor, tons of energy (even while being 6 months pregnant), lots of fun, and kicks your butt! I may pop in for a class every now an then. If you are in the Cincinnati area and want to know when and where her classes are let me know!

This weeks plan is as follows:

I’m following the schedule my training group sends out. They have options of other days to add, but I am going to stick with my 3 days a week plan. It worked for me last year.  In my workout classes running is always involved, I just don’t include those numbers in my total mileage{maybe I should}.

Anyone else training for spring marathon? Try any new workouts?

I am so excited for this to start for you! I can’t wait to follow your training and you kick the pigs butt! You are so amazing with your pace! After hearing you are doing a May race, I so want to do this one as well! I need to remember I need a break. Good luck this week :)

Nice job this week Allie! I’m glad to know that a marathon plan doesn’t look that intimidating the second time around. So did you decide that you’re going to stick with three days of running? And do you run every run with the group or just the long run on the weekends?
